Why Youth ?

The Younger generation is the future of Kerala Society. If Kerala has to be a progressive society it needs to invest in the well being of its Younger generation.

The emotional well being of youth is critical to their developing a high self esteem to have confidence in themselves. Youth with confidence will work hard and become productive members of the Society.

Young people are brought into this world by their previous generation. Therefore, there is a responsibility attached each one in the current generation. The younger generation’s values, thoughts, attitude and aspirations are shaped by their parents who bring them up, their immediate relatives, school, college, friends and the society at large.

YK’s core objective is to drive a societal change in the approach of the current generation towards their next generation.

Consider the situation in Kerala and judge for yourself if a change is needed in Kerala.

Youngsters in the age group of 15-30 lack confidence, motivation for achievement. There is tremendous peer and family pressure on them. They have been told to respect elders view at the cost of their own self esteem. There is no effective support system for these youngsters to pursue goals which would make them happy.

Facts indicate that:

Kerala has 3 times suicide rate compared to the National average.
Kerala has an alcohol consumption 3 times the National average consumption.
Kerala consumes 25% of the national production of psychotropic drugs.
Kerala’s state economic output is a 3rd of its neighbour Tamil Nadu.
Kerala had 83 days of harthals in 2008.
For the last 10 years political leadership has been counterproductive and focussing on infighting.

If people end their lives at the drop of a hat, it only means that these people suffer from a low self esteem.

If Keralites consume more alcohol, it only means they are bolstering a weak self image.

If our economic output is a 3rd of our neighbouring state, it only means that we are not a productive set of people.

Our society needs to change. We need to be productivity oriented. For that, we need a generation of people with a high self esteem. Our responses to the younger generation as fellow human beings should be controlled in a manner that they can be confident of themselves to face the world, take risks, survive setbacks, embrace new thoughts, technology and create a better Society.

For this both Young and Old members need to understand the definition of Society.

A society is a group of humans characterized by patterns of relationships between individuals that share a distinctive culture or institutions. A general inherent function of a society, more or less implicit or explicit, is to allow its individual members to get or reach individual (needed or wished) aims (benefits) that they could not get or reach separately by themselves, without the existence of the social group. This way, the society presents itself as a necessary and enabling medium between individuals, and some of individuals’ own respective (private, non social) ends[1]. And this, in turn, requires the existence of some form of coordination among the activities of the members participating in the society. More broadly, a society is an economic, social and industrial infrastructure, made up of a varied multitude of people. Members of a society may be from different ethnic groups.

The word society may also refer to an organized voluntary association of people for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes. Sociology is the study of society and social behavior.
